Thomas Hermann is Mayor of Hannover. He has occupied many other positions in the city: a member of the Hannover City Council since 2001; chair of the Committee for Integration, Europe and International Cooperation since 2014; on the Board of Trustees of the Aegidienkirche church since 2014; and on the supervisory board of urban housing association since 2001 and chairm since 2006. He has been a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) since 1980. He has previously worked for the Federal State of Lower Saxony’s Ministry for Social Affairs and was research associate (research and teaching) at the Institute for Political Science of Hannover University (now Leibniz Universität Hannover), 1987-1997.
