Ryan Swanson is a creator, place-maker and founder/ chief executive officer of the award-winning design firm The Urban Conga. The firm is focused on promoting community activity and social interaction through play. Swanson first started The Urban Conga concept with two other colleagues while working on his thesis in architecture. The idea was to activate underutilised spaces within their city of Tampa, Florida. Swanson realised the importance of play in not only our daily lives, but in the infrastructure of our cities and communities. He gave up his job at a local architecture firm and officially set up The Urban Conga in 2014. The company’s work ranges from pop-up installations to commissions by cities and large- scale companies.
