Daviz Mbepo Simango is a Mozambican politician who has been mayor of Beira since 2003. He is also the president of the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM), a party he founded in March 2009. He was originally elected mayor as the candidate of the Mozambican National Resistance (RENAMO), the party he joined in 1997. He was the MDM candidate in the 2009 and 2014 presidential elections, coming third on both occasions. He is a qualified civil engineer having studied at the Eduardo Mondlane University and has also worked in Italy. He was awarded the prize for the best elected mayor from all the Mozambican municipalities in 2006 by the Professional Management Review – Africa.
